Euro Speedometer conversion ?
76 530i...Can I take the numbered kmh "faceplate" off a Euro speedometer gauge and mount it on a USA mph gauge and get the correct speed readings? (Kind of a dsylexic type question).

Sure...as long as the maximum is the same.
At least I can't see why not. In other words, a US 140MPH would translate to a 225Km maximum. Or an 85 to a 135K.
If you have to recalibrate it, you've got trouble. You would need a stiffer/looser spring, which isn't that difficult by adjusting the preload, but also do that without adjusting the preload as you would get crazy low readings on the low end of the scale. I went thru that on a Bav one time and settled on an accurate 60MPH reading with lower being understated and higher being optimistic. It was an improvement, but still not great.

Euro speedo faceplate
The maximum was the same so I'm going ahead with the faceplate swap. I gently pried off the white indicator stem off the Euro faceplate and found there is a smalit round brass plate that mounts the indicator stem. There are two small black screws on the faceplate that I assume hold the plate to the rest of the assembly but to get the faceplate off it looks like that small brass plate has to come off from the other side somehow? Any idea how that comes out? Somehow the gauge assembly on the back of the faceplate has to be removed but I don't see any obvious way of removing it?
