Position transmitter diagnostic port needed?

Post by PatinaBeforePolish »

Magnetic sensor at the crank damper that ends in a diagnostic port next to the distributor on a 79 528i. Assuming the test equipment that plugs into the port is obsolete, is this part necessary? #7 in the parts diagram.

Totally unnecessary, no reason to leave it in there unless you're trying to be perfectly historically correct. BMW hasn't had the equipment to use it in decades if they ever did.
