Front axle mounting question

Post by thomas_m535i »

I'm rebuilding my front axle/suspension/steering. The front axle itself is already mounted on the car, but I'm now looking for the correct torque settings for some of the parts which go on it ('ancillaries').

Please take a look at the following two links.

[1] http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E12/S ... _wishbone/

1.1) #4 (2x nuts -> tension strut to front axle)
1.2) #4 (2x nuts -> tension strut to wishbone)

[2] http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E12/S ... _tie_rods/

2.1) #2, 4 (1xnut, 1xbolt -> steering arm to front axle)
2.2) #5 (2x nuts -> steering arm to center tie-rod)
2.3) #5 (2x nuts -> center tie-rod to L/R tie-rod)
2.4) #13 (3x bolts -> L/R tie-rod lever to front spring strut)
2.5) #16 (2x nuts -> L/R tie-rod lever to L/R wishbone)
2.6) #5 (2x nuts -> L/R tie-rod lever to L/R tie-rod)

I don't want to ruin any nuts or bolts (I've experience), so it would be more than great if someone could help me out with the correct torque settings.

Thanks in advance, and regards from the NL's

Thanks for your reply.

I couldn't find any torque values related to the suspension/axle, don't think those are in there..

The first 10 pages are general instructions including the maximum torque for the various sizes of bolts.
