What is this part???? 1980 m535i

Post by 2002jm »

Can anyone tell me what this part does? I have no idea!!!:)

Has a ground wire and a red wire going up to the inside of the car.

painted red on the inside and yellow on the outside. Almost looks like the inside spins, but mine does not spin as far as I can tell.
thanks for any help,

I think it's the noisemaker for an alarm system. My car has one too.

You mean like the horn.....guess it was not working, because the car started right up when it was taken out.....
I do not think I will put it back on if it is an alarm part.
thanks for the reply,
and does the top inside part spin on your car?

It very well could be something like a siren for the alarm. I didn't find any other evidence of there being an alarm. It might be fun to put 12v to it.

I have been looking it over...

I think it is some type of alarm. Might try the 12v and see if it moves:).
At this point I don't see any reason to put it back in. I will find out where the power line goes. It enters near the glove box. Hope it makes lots of noise when I turn it on:).
