identify this speedometer?

Post by Layne »

A friend of mine pulled this one on the right from an e21. I've never seen a 140mph unit that didn't have kilometers too, is this from an e12? Certain variation or something?

identify this speedometer?

Post by grumpsjr »

Seems like I recall the old e3's (2500/2800/3.0s/3.0si/bavaria) having this speedometer.  Does anyone know when the multi-unit labelling became a requirement in the states?  1974?  THat was quite a bit before my time, I'm afraid.  My 1970 2002 doesn't have kms on the speedometer.

My '75 520i has that speedo. It's a Euro though.

Yeah, Bav is what comes to mind. I want to think E21's had Moto meter speedos, but maybe just tachs, and they only went to 120 at best, not 140. It would have to be a late Bav though, I know mine only had 5 digits for miles, not 6.

What's the date stamp behind the speedo?
That may narrow down a bit.
My US spec. '80 E12 has large km/h and small mp/h.

What did early E24's and E23's have?

All the 7's had electronic speedos and said so on the face. E24's had more color, I want to think orange needles and on some at least some very thin green trim lines. Fancier at any rate.
