BMW 528I E12 1981 Transmision need of assistance

Post by npadro77 »

I have a problem with my all 5 shift standard transmision, I put a clutch pressure plate and new clutch and slave, new bearings , a new flex joint kit ,new guibo and a new propeller shaf everything from the transmision all original parts OEM .I have never had a problem with my transmision before only with the master slave . I have a problem with it and decided to change ewerything from the transmision included my old stick shift and whole new stick shift kit. (all original parts OEM). Now my car every time. i shift it look the Syncronizer rings all 5 gears are bad . The person that put the transmision and the parts in my car now says I have a problem with the transmision Syncronizer rings. I have been asking questions about what causes the transmision to do that. People have been saying it may be the syncronizer rings or they may have put the transmision wrong. Now I have my car at my house with all new parts and I cannot use my car at the moment. The guy that put the parts in my car said I need to get a new transmision. If anyone can help me with this problem they I have or anyone has this problem before or and they can give me any advice . What you can recomended me to do? Please I miss to drive my BMW 528i E12 1981 :( If so please contact me at my email Npadro77@hotmail.com.. Thank you !!

Was it not going into gears before you did the pressure plate etc?
What about the throwout bearing ?

Used Transmission?

Post by John in Simi Valley »

Nelson,
Sorry to hear of your transmission troubles.

Repair or replacement?
I suggest posting in the bulletin board "For Sale/Wanted" section for a good transmission. To rebuild will likely be $1200 or so. A good used unit should be $300, hopefully less. Since you're located in Florida, getting a local trans is important to save on the shipping costs.

You have a NICE car.
I hope you can get it back on the road soon.
Good Luck!
