Broken glove box latch

Hit a pot hole, no joke, that busted the glove box latch. Boom, box dropped open. I see now it would have been smart to have it locked for the extra support.

Question, on the black plastic latch, clean break, is there any glue (super, epoxy) that your experience knows works ?

Mine has been funny plastics seem to be the exception to all the, " Glues everything," blabbo on the label.

Had the same thing happen quite a few years ago, scared the livin' heck outa me while driving. There has been some discussion about fixes on the old board, I could never get anything to hold for a month or so, there's too much downward stress on the lip. But that was before Gorilla Glue, maybe it might work. I believe Peter addressed some sort of pin-melt-plastic insertion to hold the two pieces like rebar. I just wound up buying a new ones, they aren't that bad, I'm on my third.

i found an unbroken one in the junk yard,, i feel it was a very lucky find. i keep it locked to hold it on and also, i don't keep anything heavy in the 'box.

It seems to me, from my small shadetree, that you would be spinning your wheels & wasting your time on fixits. $28 bucks from Bavauto and it'll last another 300,000. Two screws. Great selling point. I can see it now; 'plus a new glovebox latch, not a rebuild. Will not pop open at 60mph in a right hand drift & make you wish you were in the head and not in the tullies.' Wow! Greg

I fixed one by drilling it and putting in a piece or two of welding rod to reinforce it. I soon found a spare so I didn't get a good handle on it's expected lifetime, but it worked as long as I needed it to. I think it was superglue I used in addition to the metal rods. If it's any consolation, the later type that I think were used in the last of E12's along with everything else for a while, E's 21, 23, 24, 28 and I think 30, were much shorter lived. Those things break and you can't get into the glove compartment.

Goop. Glues metal to concrete, rubber to steel, cats to dogs,...but not glove box plastic. New is the proper choice, and then keep the box locked for the extra support.

Or, leave the drat thing broken and locked.
