Parting 1977 530i - what should I keep?

Post by Eta power »

Hi all,

I'm parting a 1977 530i. I'm planning on keeping the headlights, taillights, fuel pump, entire drive train, as well as the front and rear suspensions. This car has a lot of rust in bad spots, and although it has a set of "early" doors, they are rusted out, too. All the electrics are pretty much shot from having sat outside for so long.

Just looking for suggestions before I send a usable part to the crusher.

Thanks,
AJ

You've got most of it. Maybe cluster, glass, heater?

Probably wishful thinking, but if the gas tank is not rusty it may be worth keeping. It's NLA from BMW and there are no aftermarket options.

Door trim, some is NLA. Combination relay. Fuel injection rail if not rusted and the coolant rail which is NLA. The housing for the air slide valve as new retail is $514!!! I'd save the pedal cluster as well.

From experience it works like this :

Save all of it. No, that won't work. Not enough space in the garage, if there was it would fill up anyway. The neighbors will get crabby if I begin expanding to the driveway.

Just accept you will be encountering needing something you didn't keep, and do what you have to. Move on to the next thing.
