The wipers on my 1981 528i are not working properly. Manual calls for 4 positions, off, interval, normal wiper speed and fast. I only have 2 positions, off, and normal speed... Click into the 3 position but wipers move at the same "normal" speed.
The wiper lever/arm has some play in it so my hope is it might be a bad switch vs a problem with the wiper motor.
Any suggestions???

Still new to the sight... Used the Google Search feature and I found a posting from Feb of 2000 (below) that appears to address my issue.

If they are running and you move lever up to "fast" the wipers will run only until the blade comes back to the bottow of the windshield and then it stops. Can anyone tell me what is wrong and how to correct. Our recent heavy rains made driving impossible. TIA for your help.
Dear Lee, I just went through the same thing! I had to replace the wiper stalk which I bought from BMP in Tyler, TX. You have to remove the steering wheel,bottom cover of the steering column, 2 Phillips head screws removed to loose the stalk, follow the wires down to the plug-in and plug in the new stalk assembley and reverse everything else.
