Crush washers for power steering pressure hoses

Post by Adam W in MN »

Arggh, having an issue here. I ordered #5 in this drawing (part # ending in 131) but the diameter of the washers that came is way too small to fit over the hollow bolts that go into the power steering box.

And actually the other hose has larger diameter copper crush washers for the big hollow bolt (#8 in the drawing, that might be the small one and #5 is the big one, but hard to tell). As you can see, this drawing is pretty wonked as the BMW parts drawings go. Not much seems to have the right label (#2 a supporting plate? What the hell?).

I'm going to try the dealer tomorrow to see if they have something on-hand in one of their washer drawers that will fit (bringing the old crush washers and the hollow bolts).

Apparently the hollow bolts are NLA by the way... :?

See pic below which helps. As you can see there's no way the part # 131 washers are even close to what I need.

If you cannot find it, give me the ID and OD and I have a local supplier that carries all of these (or a huge selection). I may even have them, but mine are all aluminum.

Alright, my parts genius at the dealer figured it out. For whatever reason, there are two diagrams in this section of the e12 power steering parts areas, and this is the one with the right part #'s and the right labels. So you can see that #5 and #8 have different part #'s.

Also the hollow bolts are NOT NLA! And shocker of shockers, the dealer had both hollow bolts and the copper crush washers I needed in stock so I have what I need. Hopefully this thread will spare others from the pain of trying to find out the right copper crush washers.
