Trunk Latch Problem

Post by GripGreg »

It appears that my trunk latch isn't working properly. Please read my ghost story in 'Gen'l Discussion'. It isn't in FAQ. Just like me to find a new problem. Any tips would be helpful. Is anything adjustable there? What other years are compatible?
Thanx In Advance,,,,Greg

Not much to fear here. If the beauty press board panels are installed, unscrew the dial deals and use a fat screw driver to pry out the center pegs.

Once you are looking at the latch mechanism you'll see how the bolts allow adjusting up / down / sideways so the catch on the lid can latch below.

Usually the lock cylinder gets dirty, which can be cleaned by squirting silicone on it and pushing, wiping until free. After that it's just messing around testing, closing, opening the lid until the bottom mechanism is in the right place to click closed all nice.

Only hard part is leaning over the back bumper.

Thanx Very Much, Tom!
I went to Bimmerfest @ the Rose Bowl today (Sunday) and ran into Chris Kowler, who's been an integral part of this website. He said, "You're GripGreg, right?" He recognized me from the BBQ pix's at Brian's. He straightened out the latch for me just the way you said. Thanx Chris!!!!! Or it might be Kris. My son's name is also Chris, so forgive me for the spelling.
Check my future post in Gen'l. Discussion.
Thanx very much, Tom, no more ghosts.,,,,Greg
