Hello,
My poor old E12 sits in the rain all day in Washington and I decided today that I am not going to lose anymore of the car to mold and rust, since I have been neglecting it. I know the trunk gasket leaks, and I am not too sure the windows are keeping things out these days. I was just wasnt really looking to spend too much money or really make it look pretty so I was wondering if a nice took of silicone sealant might do the trick for some of the leaks. Mainly I want to get rid of that damn puddle that is behind the passenger side seat, thats always fun to fine when I leave something on the ground there. Anyways Where exactally does the trunk gaskets usually leak, where they come into contact with the lid or somewhere on the body?
Also if anyone was wondering the car was overheating for the most obviouse reason, all the coolant leaked out of the thermostat cover.
Lame, Lame.

Leaking
I wouldn't doubt that the puddle would be from one of those two, I know the drains are clear on the Sunroof, I just checked them, and water wojuld be coming down the middle pillar (the part where the front seat belts are attached) right?
And I know the trunk leaks, I just dont think it is more then a few drops here and there, but i might as well attempt to take care of it.

Have you checked around your tail lights?
Remove the covers and have a look. That's a common leak location when you have dried out tail light gaskets. Most times, the studs protruding from the tail light assemblies also rust or break off the plastic which results in a gap large enough for water to filter through.

Is it a few drops or a puddle ????Golgade wrote:I wouldn't doubt that the puddle would be from one of those two, , I just dont think it is more then a few drops here and there,
Drops could just be condensation ...very common. Makes for rusty tool kits etc.
Three E12's and one R27

I seem to be the only one, but I'll throw this one out as I've had it on 3 different BMWs. How is the alignment on the back of the sunroof? Often it seems low, and even with good working sunroof drains, you can get a puddle in the rear footwell. You pour water in to test it with the sunroof open and it drains fine. But when it rains, look out. I know the seal on the sunroof isn't really a seal, but the alignment has to be close to keep enough to the heavy stuff out. If it is well aligned, disregard the above.

Okay
Well I adjusted it a year or two ago and it took care of the puddle on the drivers side I would get if I parked on a hill. Maybe ill sit there with a hose one of these days and see if I can find out if it goes somewhere.
