Flasher Relay

Post by SteveinSLC »

I just replaced a bad flasher relay and within a few hours, the new relay is bad. Any clues as to where to look?

This is a US 1977 530i.

Thanks,

Steve

Just some ideas -
1. Relay is overloading from resistance/corrosion in circuits. Clean and brighten everything- fuses/contacts, all of the lightbulb socket contact tabs in the tail and side light housings. Also the the plugs/pin connectors that connect each light assembly to the main harnesses. These (especially the fronts) often overheat and get fixed with flakey splice/tape jobs. Same with grounds - clean - like the gang-ground in the trunk.
2. I had a non-Bosch hazard relay (don't remember the brand) that was very short lived. It had a transparent blue case.
3. Probably unlikely but - hazard switch ?

Thanks, my son recently replaced the rear passenger tail light assembly and I am pretty sure that is where my problem is coming from.

I will let you know if I figure it out.

Anybody got flasher relays laying around?
