Tachometer issue.....

While doing repairs behind the instrument cluster I accidentally pulled one of the wires out of the tach. Instead of soldering the wire back I installed a spare tach I had. That tach seems to be several thousand rpm out of where it should be. Any ideas on how to get to read correctly or am I better off fixing the old one?
