So I had a little time at night and was at my friend's house and we decided to try a little SeaFoam on our cars. I wanted to see what the hype was all about and if this stuff really worked. So, I followed the instructions that I've seen online from youtube videos.
What I did?
1. warm up the car for around 5-10 minutes
2. find a vacuum line to use to suck in SeaFoam so it'll clean out your intake and everything else
3. so we started up the car sucked in about 1/3 of the can through the vacuum line
4. turned off the car and waited 10 minutes
5. started up the car and white smoke started coming out (good thing it was night time, otherwise might have been pulled over for a ticket)
6. drove the car very hard for about 15 minutes, pretty much pushing a little before red line on the 110 Fwy here in SoCal. (I just beat the heck out of the car, the car sure does have a lot more power the closer you get to redline, I know the engine can get a lot more power out of it)
7. noticed a lot of build up of carbon and soot on the exhaust tips
Impressions:
I did some fuel injector cleaner through the gas tank about 2 weeks ago when I got the car running after it's 3 year hibernation on my driveway. The fuel injector cleaner smoother out the idle a good amount as well as really improved the gas mileage. The car runs a lot better now, but still a little rough after cold starts and could be a little smoother with acceleration.
After SeaFoam, I noticed a lot smoother acceleration, idles a little bit lower now (800-900 rpm) instead of (900-1100 rpm), engine over all seems a lot quieter, seems like there is a little bit more power. It definitely idles a lot smoother as well. The engine also revs a lot more easier and throttle response is definitely a lot better. I'm pretty impressed with it.
I still haven't tried adding 1/3 SeaFoam added to the oil as well as 1/3 in your gas tank. I guess I'll try an "Italian tune up" and change the oil immediately when I do this.
Have you guys tried SeaFoam before on your cars? What do you guys think of this product? I thought I'd just share my experienced. I would definitely recommend this to people who just picked up an old E12 or esp. if it's been stored for a long while.

Denso here. I've used it in the tank, but not known the vacuum line procedure. Which tube did you use ? Just pour a third in a jar, idle and stick the vacuum tube in the jar ?
For some reason I've heard it does work from knowledgeable sources, not snake oil. Still the cynic in me wonders if good parts, tuned, with an occasional run at four grand, well, you know.

Use the vacuum line on the throttle body. I bought a couple of feet of vacuum hose at Pep Boys, they sell it by the foot, in case the Sea Foam damaged the rubber. Very easy to do. Make sure when you do it to be in a well ventilated area because a lot of smoke comes out of the exhaust when you start it up after letting the Sea Foam sit in the engine.
I can't help it. Women have every right to slap their foreheads.
Acronyms. OBD. CEL. Ovalular belt drive ? Organic Bungle Dweezer ? Is there really a group somewhere that easily converts three single Arabic symbols into instant comprehension ? If so, I'm in Spanky's clubhouse.
(Our Gang comedies, circa 1930's, Alfalfa, Stymie, Buckwheat, " Wish Cotten was a monkey.")
So I'm going out in my driveway and deliberately pour SF into my TB to make huge plumes of smoke come out the EP and scare my neighbors into calling the FD.
To make it run better, if the CEL doesn't blow off. Cosmic Environment Limiter ?

Women slap their heads at lots of stuff we do, and likewise we do at their stuff too.
Regardless,
CEL= Check engine light
OBD= On board diagnostics, mostly AKA OBDII since OBDI only lasted a year or two.
I'm not sure if it's the same or not, but way back when, we used to pour a quart of diesel down the carb of old VW bugs to try and decarbon them. With the same plumes of white smoke accompaning the process.

I think it's pretty much the same concept and idea. I talked with one of my friends the other day and he said a cheaper version of SeaFoam would be using IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol). I haven't tried this yet, but maybe I'll do some research on it. Don't take my word for it. I don't want to see people blame me if it doesn't work.Mike W. wrote: I'm not sure if it's the same or not, but way back when, we used to pour a quart of diesel down the carb of old VW bugs to try and decarbon them. I can vouch for SeaFoam though. I realized I didn't do the required 1/3 last time and did about 1/2 a can last night and I pronounced huge clouds of whie smoke. Good thing it was dark at night and I proceeded to go on an Italian tune up right away (aka taking your car on the freeway and pushing it to the limits). After SeaFoaming the car, I noticed the throttle response is a lot more responsive, revving freely sorta like a motorcycle now. The car has stopped spitting out bits and pieces of carbon and other deposits when I start it up. On a cold start, the exhaust from the pipes does not smell as rich as before. I'm getting a good amt of power right in the middle of the power band.
I wish I could make videos to show you guys. The car feels like a totally different car from about 3 weeks ago when I first got it running. I guess the next time I need to do would be the brakes which are getting a little noisy. I'm still having a little trouble starting the car on cold starts similar to T. Hanson.
